Outsiders, Rejects or Half-breeds that linger on the outskirts of a polarised city.”

LAND OF COUSINS // 異鄉兒女

Written and directed by Janice Ng, LAND OF COUSINS is a celebration of Hong Kong’s third culture kids. Misrepresentation and a lack of understanding may often label them as ‘outsiders’, ‘rejects’ or ‘half-breeds’ that linger on the outskirts of a polarised city. Truth is, they may be the only cultural chameleons that can straddle the balance of multiple worlds and cultures; a source of untapped insight into a new and fresh perspective. Life is coloured with vibrancy and meaning; blood unique in a way that penetrates social barriers and recognises the joy in being open-minded and culturally diverse. Hong Kong, with its eclectic mix of East meets West, provides TCKs with a comforting sense of belonging. A chance to be no one, someone and everyone all at once. From the gritty alleyways of Sham Shui Po to the polished skyscrapers of Central, Hong Kongers are as unique as the landscape and architecture around them. At the end of the day, we live in a land of cousins. As you watch the documentary, experience the untold stories of TCKs, rooting yourselves in the honesty and heart of their stories.
